Memorable Moments: Sarnia, Ontario

Sarnia, Ontario. Birthplace of multiple NHLers, as well as Commander Chris Hadfield. A city that welcomed us with gumption, and a festival that rivaled the best.

From live ice sculptures to a display of some of the greatest trophies in the world, to our very own “Legends Row,” our holiday special weekend brought the very best from start to end.

On Friday at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club, we got a behind the scenes look at Tara learning to curl, which was one of the most exciting Slice of Life shoots of the season.

Welcoming Hometown Hockey on Saturday was a crowd of people at a beautiful site. But most of all, one of our favourite moments was meeting the Sarnia Lady Sting Pee Wee A team, who helped raise over $20,000 for breast cancer research.

Sunday brought excitement, magic, legends, and even some surprises. Starting the day off with Kraig Nienhuis, we were reminded that it’s never too late to try something new, whether that’s hockey or music. Kraig is truly an inspiration.

The afternoon’s hot stove was our very own Legends Row. Mike Stapleton, Pat Stapleton, Darryl Sittler and Dino Ciccarelli joined us for the hot stove and had some very interesting stories to share.

Before we could catch our breath after a memorable hot stove, musical guests The Tenors took the stage for a soundcheck that brought a very special surprise. There’s nothing better then having your family with you for the holidays.

There couldn’t have been a more appropriate performance from the Canadian quartet, and their incredible voices brought joy and wonder to everyone in the crowd.

To complete our holiday broadcast, Ron MacLean, Tara Slone, Jen Botterill and some of our alumni have a special message for you.

And before we end this entry, one final thought on the Imperial City from Ron MacLean.
