NEXT Testing - A Revolution in Hockey?

On Tuesday January 19th, 2010, I was in Windsor to check out this relatively new testing method for hockey players called NEXT Testing. The method was being used to test the prospects participating in the CHL Top Prospects game. I had heard very little about NEXT Testing before my trip to Windsor and I am grateful for the opportunity I was given to learn more about it and watch it first hand. I believe it is going to revolutionize the way players go about practicing and training for hockey now and in the future. NEXT Testing is a standardized and scientifically-based testing service that measures performance and is extremely useful for players, coaches, and scouts. It helps players identify areas of weakness in their game and areas in which they should focus their training on. NEXT Testing results will help coaches tailor practices and workouts to try and get the most out of their player and maximize their potential. It will allow scouts or other recruiters to track and monitor the progress of players who have been through the test. They will also be able to compare the results to other players who have taken the test worldwide. The NEXT Testing full combine consists of 14 on-ice tests and 7 off-ice tests. To learn more about each of these tests, the significance of them in relation to hockey, and to view actual video from tests performed, visit nexttesting.com. The use of technology and the standardization of the test is what intrigued me the most about NEXT Testing. I wanted to lace them up and try some of the tests myself. It is such a useful tool to monitor your skating and to find areas you need to improve in, I wish this was around when I was in minor hockey. The price is reasonable too, instead of buying a one piece stick that may or may not improve your shot you could try NEXT Testing which could lead to a major improvement in your overall game and bring you to that next level you want to get to. The Pros are using this technology to track and monitor their progress but it could be the most beneficial to minor hockey players who are not certain of the areas they need to focus on at a young age in order to make it the next level what ever that may be. There was definitely a buzz around the rink in Windsor about NEXT Testing and the players seemed to really like it as well. NEXT Testing appears to be where hockey is headed in terms of measuring performance and providing areas of weakness to players to ensure their training is objective focused and geared towards improving their game. There is more about pricing and contact information for NEXT Testing on their website. Check it out!
